Tom is a business builder, product and technology executive, and operator focused on helping financial advisors build stronger, more valuable businesses.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in philosophy and American history, Tom went on to earn both a master's degree in international relations and an MBA from Yale University. He began his career at McKinsey & Company before co-founding Upside, a fintech company that developed a digital advisory platform for independent RIAs and was later acquired by Envestnet. He subsequently led Betterment's retail and advisor businesses, oversaw innovation initiatives at Fidelity Investments, and most recently served as Chief Product and Technology Officer at Edelman Financial Engines.
Having built businesses himself—from a venture-backed fintech startup to a French specialty food market that he and his wife opened in their hometown of Winchester, Massachusetts—Tom understands both the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship. That perspective shapes his approach at FP Transitions, where he is passionate about helping financial advisors build stronger, more valuable businesses.
Outside of work, Tom enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, playing tennis, and designing and building furniture in his woodworking shop. He appreciates tennis for the blend of athleticism and strategy it demands, and woodworking for the opportunity to hone a physical craft. Whether in business or in his personal pursuits, Tom is driven by a commitment to continuous improvement and meaningful progress.
