Due Diligence Checklist

Due Diligence Checklist

Whether you’re buying or selling a financial services practice, you are responsible for performing your own due diligence prior to closing the deal. This checklist covers some of the more common–and overlooked–areas that are performed during this phase of the acquisition process, including:

  • Client transferability
  • Licensing & compliance
  • Taxes
  • Employment details
  • Transferable property

This checklist also provides a roadmap for self-assessment prior to selling in order to identify any potential bumps along the way.

Every transaction is unique and the due diligence process must be adapted to each situation. It is always a good idea to have a team of professionals in place throughout the process, but it is especially crucial before diving in to due diligence. Your team should include industry & regulatory experts, your CPA, your attorney, and a qualified intermediary.
